in reverse order

since this is a blog, you have to go to the very bottom and read them in reverse order. eventually, there will be pages across the top where you can read chunks of information in a logical order. this is all free posting, so, maybe that is why it has to appear in reverse order.

Essential supplies

A list of the items that -for me- are essential.
(JNB) means that you probably have to order from johnnealbooks.com
otherwise, you may find them at local stores.
Pink Print Co in DSM has a few supplies (Pink)

PAPER:
For layout and practice:

5-Star notebook paper, both college ruled and wide lined. Made by Mead. If you can find Mead notebook paper - loose leaf, then you do not have to deal with the notebooks, but the 5-Star notebooks are easier to find.

Graph paper - all kinds. The best are John Neal's practice pads (JNB)

Rhodia tablets (Pink)

Nice paper - for finished artwork:  Arches Text Wove (JNB)  or   Canson
Nice envelopes - Paper Source

NIBS:
pointed - Nikko G are my favorites (JNB - or Pink Print Co in DSM)
broad edge - Mitchell's are my favorites (JNB)

INK:
McCaffrey's, walnut made from crystals (JNB - limited supply at Pink)

OTHER SUPPLIES:
some are available at JNB - you may find some of the items at local art/craft supply stores or office supply stores

G-Tec pens - all sizes, all colors, although tiny sizes (.25) tend to clog up)
PigmaMicron
Sharpies
Chisel tips: Pigma or ZIG
Brush tips: Cocoiro or Tombo
Gel pens: Gelly Roll - all colors, Uni-ball Signo for white, gold and silver

Colored pencils - Prismacolors are nice, higher quality, not student grade
A good pencil sharpener

Erasers - kneaded, Sanford Magic Rub (white), Factis Black (JNB)

C-Thru ruler - uber-essential

IF YOU PLAN TO MAKE THINGS OUT OF PAPER - very useful (essentials for me)
Metal edge ruler -or- metal ruler for cutting

X-acto knife with lots of blades
Mat knife - Olfa with snap off blades
